Chanmi Ryu
The Instructor of Gilza Piano
Born and raised in S. Korea, Chanmi Ryu moved to the U.S. at the age of 18 for studying. She entered Southern Illinois University at Carbondale being the top-scholarship recipient, and had several recitals within the society. Then she continued her studies in B.M. at Roosevelt University under the teachings of Meng-Chieh Liu and Jorge Osorio.
During the years at Roosevelt, she played with Chicago Chamber Musicians as a guest pianist, won Chicago College of Performing Arts Concerto Competition, and played with CCPA Symphony Orchestra in Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, receiving loud applause from the audience of three thousand people. In every year at Roosevelt, she was chosen as one of the showcase pianists, which gave her the opportunities to give many performances around the area.
From 2012-2014, Ryu pursued her Master’s Degree at Southern Methodist University, studying with Joaquin Achucarro and Alfred Mouledous. She performed in various concerts, master-classes, and received high commend from world-renowned musicians such as John Perry and David Schrader.
She has extensive experiences not only in solo piano music, but in chamber music as well. she played regularly in the studios of Samuel Ramey, the members of Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Returning to S. Korea in 2014, Chanmi Ryu served in Korea International Christian School as the music director and music teacher, and served as lecture-faculty in Peniel Arts Middle and High School in Busan. Currently, she is actively giving recitals and ensemble concerts in Korea.
Being the lecturer of Gilza Piano and highly-in-demand piano teacher, she has incorporated the methods of her teachers and built her own method. In her teaching, Chanmi combines brilliant virtuosic approach used by professional classical pianists with basic elements needed for the beginners and intermediate students.

Joaquin Achucarro
Described as “one of the greats” by ABC in Madrid and “the consummate artist” by the Chicago Sun-Times, internationally acclaimed Spanish pianist Joaquín Achúcarro has performed recitals in 60 countries and has played with over 200 orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, La Scala of Milan, London Symphony, London Philharmonic, Philarmonia, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, RIAS Berlin, Sydney Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony, National de France, Hallé, City of Birmingham, Royal Scottish, RTA Ireland, Western Australia, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Sta Cecilia Roma, RAI, Arena de Verona, Orchestra Verdi, and the National Orchestras of Spain, Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela, among many others. He has performed under an impressive list of 342 of the world´s greatest conductors, such as Abbado, Boult, Chailly, Mehta, Menuhin, Ozawa and Rattle.
Born in Bilbao, Spain, Achúcarro studied in Madrid, Paris, Vienna, and Salzburg. His international career was launched with his victory in England at the 1959 Liverpool International Competition and subsequent debut with the London Symphony, and from that time, he has maintained an uninterrupted concert schedule.
Jorge Osorio
Recipient of the prestigious Medalla Bellas Artes, the highest honor granted by Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts, Jorge Federico Osorio has been lauded throughout the world for his superb musicianship, powerful technique, vibrant imagination, and deep passion. He has performed with many of the world’s leading ensembles, including the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico; the Israel, Warsaw, and Royal Philharmonics; RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (Dublin), Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai (Torino), São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), Moscow State Orchestra, Orchestre Nationale de France, Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
A prolific recording artist, Osorio has documented a wide variety of repertoire, including a solo Brahms CD that Gramophone proclaimed “one of the most distinguished discs of Brahms’ piano music in recent years.”
An avid chamber music performer, Osorio has served as artistic director of the Brahms Chamber Music Festival in Mexico; performed in a piano trio with violinist Mayumi Fujikawa and cellist Richard Markson; and collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Ani Kavafian, Elmar Oliveira, Henryk Szeryng, and the Pacifica and Moscow Quartets. Highly revered in his native Mexico, Osorio resides in the Chicagoland area, where he serves on the faculty at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.
Meng-Chieh Liu
A recipient of the 2002 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Meng-Chieh Liu joined New England Conservatory's piano studio faculty in 2014.
Liu first made headlines in 1993 as a 21-year-old student at the Curtis Institute of Music, when he substituted for André Watts at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia with three hours' notice. The concert earned high acclaim from critics and audience alike and was followed by a number of widely praised performances, including a recital at the Kennedy Center and a concert on the Philadelphia All-Star Series.
A dedicated chamber musician, as well as a solo artist, Liu has collaborated with musicians in North America, Europe, and Asia, in addition to working with artists in other disciplines, including dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and his White Oak Dance Project.
Liu received the 2002 Philadelphia Musical Fund Society Career Advancement Award and first prizes in the Stravinsky, Asia Pacific Piano, and Mieczyslaw Munz competitions.
